PACK POINT NORDIC approaches the highway. Soon it will be just one month left for this year's most important conference on food packaging. A speaker from our neighboring country to the east is Tanja Virtanen-Leppä, Head of Packaging at the dairy group Valio. We took the pulse on her before the conference.

Hello there Tanja! What will your presentation be about?

How to fulfil the key functions of packaging while aiming for low environmental impact.

How do you look at today's packaging?

It is great to work with packaging: in the end we are all consumers with an emotional connection to packaging. When talking about sustainability it is sometimes a bit hard for consumers to tell the difference between perceived sustainability and actual fact-based sustainability.

What changes / improvements would you prefer to see?

Developing technologies will provide exciting possibilities in packaging. I’d prefer to see more packaging materials sourced from bio-based resources. I’d also like to see recycling systems and materials developing and bringing us more possibilities in both open and closed loop recycling.

Can you describe your expectations on the conference?

I look forward to meet new contacts within packaging related value chain and to discuss future of packaging.
