Internationally renowned packaging competition a success for Mondi
Mondi's innovative Nor Cell film has now been honoured internationally. The product, which is developed by the Gronau based company Mondi Consumer Packaging Technologies, earned an award in the category "Food" at WorldStar Award 2013, one of the most renowned and most important international packaging awards. From lef Matthias Perick, Packaging Development Project Manager, and Dr Herbert Bader, Managing Director, of Mondi Consumer Packaging Technologies GmbH in Gronau are delighted about winning the WorldStar Award with the Nor Cell film.
After winning the German Packaging Award in 2012, this award marks a second win for Nor Cell. "We are proud that, once again, we have been rewarded for our innovative idea," says Dr Herbert Bader, Managing Director of Mondi Consumer Packaging Technologies GmbH, the research and development company at Mondi Consumer Packaging. The company develops products and processes for consumer packaging as well as for films and hygiene components. "The Nor Cell technology allows our customers to use intelligent and, at the same time, sustainable films – a thoroughly promising idea."The Nor Cell technology reduces the weight of flexible packaging considerably by applying a physical, controlled foaming process. The foaming process was patented by the company Mucell. Mondi successfully developed it further for the blown film process and now uses it for flexible packaging and film products all across Europe as an exclusive partner.Films which are produced and foamed by using the Nor Cell process weigh up to 40 percent less than ordinary films, while maintaining their film thickness, and are thus veritable lightweights. Another advantage: Nor Cell films require a lot less material, a weighty argument in an age when sustainability and the conservation of resources is becoming increasingly important. The films are particularly suited for packaging in the areas of food, pet food and hygiene. The World Packaging Organization has been awarding the WorldStar Award since 2002 and honours the best packaging products worldwide in six different categories. In this year's competition, the international jury chose from a total of 316 competitors, 81 of which had entered in the category "Food". Only packaging that has already been successful at a national or regional competition can enter the WorldStar Award.
